Improving People Skills: Get Ahead In Life With Interpersonal and Communication Skills That Work!

Day in and day out, whether at work or running our own business, we have to interact with people. We may talk face-to-face, by phone or Skype, by email, or on popular virtual gathering places like Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook. Never before have we had so many ways we can connect to people, and never has it been so critical to make your presence strong and consistent no matter the platform.
Did you know every relationship begins with you? Every person you deal with will present you with different interpersonal challenges but how you handle them and communicate is up to you. Much has been written about how we can influence our work relationships but for now, let‘s look at a quick review of best practices in people skills.:
• Hear with an active ear. This is an essential skill for workplace communications. Our jobs are demanding, we have a lot to get through in a day and a lot of people to talk with. If we short-change our interactions results can include mixed messages, incomplete information and impaired productivity. When you have to interact with someone, be it the mail clerk or someone on your leadership team, you need to engage in active listening and really ‘hear‘what they’re saying, rather than jumping the gun to give your response. If you think about it, there really is a difference between ‘listening’ and ‘hearing’.
• Speak clearly and be concise. There is nothing worse than someone taking 25 minutes to explain a sales concept or give a debriefing on the next in-house professional development initiative when it could have easily been communicated in less than 10. Everyone is busy and you have to respect their time.
• Be approachable. If you constantly keep yourself at arm’s length from your employees or colleagues, you’re sending a message that you’re difficult to approach. All that does is cast out negativity which, in turn, is counter-productive. Let people know they can come to you with problems and that you’ll do your best to be objective and help them find a solution quickly and efficiently.
• Foster team spirit. People resonate with workplace camaraderie. They like to know they’re being supported in their jobs. It helps them stay motivated and engaged. Do everything you can to instil this in those around you. A happier workforce is a very productive one.
At the end of the day, relationships are at the core of any business. People within your company are essential to your success, and the people coming to you for service and solutions are counting on the fact that your company stands behind what it says it can do. By taking stock of your people skills and working to improve them as necessary, you can ensure it’s a win-win for all.

Personal Development – Start Right now or miss out on key Life Choices!
By: Derek

Personal development is the pursuit of learning, developing, honing and mastering the skills that help you become the best that you can, with all that you have. It is the reaching for, and realizing of your full potential as a human being.
You want to live a full, productive life, but sometimes, you just don’t know where to begin. There is so much information ‘out there’ that it can be overwhelming and hard to choose what is right for you. Depending on your concerns what seems to work for one person, may not necessarily work for you. There are so many different ideas, strategies, advice and techniques that it’s hard to chose the right one.
One thing, however, is certain. If you want to achieve anything in your life and realise your full potential, you must have some practical and positive skills – life skills.
In order to excel at work, in a sport or in your relationships, you must acquire and master certain skills. Living your life fully, productively and with enjoyment is no different.
Crucially possessing life skills enables you to deal with the life’s inevitable challenges and adversities more effectively. It reduces your chances of procrastinating, finding yourself getting frustrated and stressed, engaging in addictive behaviours, and experiencing overall despair and hopelessness. When you have the proper tools and actions at your disposal, you have more control over your life and time making you happier and more confident.
Taking the first steps
Your first step is establishing a firm foundation. That foundation must be “you”. You need to know who you are, what you want, and what you are capable of. You must then determine which values, goals and principles you will establish to guide your actions.
Learning about and applying essential life skills will help you. It will help you to:
know and understand yourself better
live life more consciously and deliberately to attain personal satisfaction and fulfilment.
The hardest part in dealing with any major challenge is taking the first step, however once you do, there is a surprising positive and snowball effect. You will begin to feel good about what you’re doing and you’ll want to take further steps. You will want to keep improving yourself and to become the very best that you can be.

Your continuing journey of personal development will make you aware that there is so much more knowledge and information to be discovered, and uncovered, than you ever thought possible – knowledge about yourself, knowledge about others, knowledge about life and the world around you. A fantastic life experience controlled by you, if you make a start.
Personal development is about wanting and pursuing new experiences, knowledge and excellent relationships. Nothing should be left out in your pursuit of finding your future self and life fulfilment.
timechampions.com desire the best for you and what you want.
To support you and encourage you in your pursuit of improvement and in expanding your confidence, timechampions suggest you to read and explore every area of interest that excites you.
Read inspirational quotes, and personal development articles that include helpful tips and actions, as well as other interesting advice.
The good news is that acquiring essential life skills will not only contribute to your personal growth and development, it will make you a more interesting and dynamic individual.
Why are these new skills and experiences essential?
Without them you will always feel that something is missing in your life. What good is all the financial success in the world if you don’t have self-confidence, or know who you really are, what you want, or what you’re doing here? We’ve all witnessed many outwardly successful and famous people who have not been able to find personal happiness. No amount of fame or fortune could fill the void they felt inside.
Your steps to achieve more of your development potential confirm that it is important to follow a plan that includes actions to:
Develop a healthy self esteem by:
Starting from where you are right now by
Knowing yourself
Learn to love yourself
Always be true to yourself.
Develop a personal value system
Keeping an honest perspective on life
Keep an open mind
Develop and keep a sense of humour
Show resilience
Accept the reality of your situation and the world.
Use your time effectively:
Don’t procrastinate
Develop clear realistic and personal goals
Have a daily priority plan
Make time for you and your family, friends
Find a hobby or pastime and enjoy it
Work to minimise your experience of stress
Fill any TIME GAPS with useful action:
Enjoy gardening even if it just a window box
Take on board a hobby that brings you in contact with others
Make new friends by joining local social groups
Start a course of learning something that you will enjoy
Your health is vital so do exercise, (within the limits of your current ability) diet or join a health club
Develop new relationships even use Dating opportunities
Undertake serious study to enhance your expertise and help your brain to develop
Develop Speed reading to open up opportunities to help others or earn extra cash
Undertake DIY projects.
Take affordable and enjoyable holidays
Make money at home – internet – home tasks
The opportunities to develop yourself fill the internet, books, advice centres and your friends. CHOOSE THOSE THAT WILL BUILD YOUR CONFIDENCE AND MAKE YOU OPTIMISTIC ABOUT YOUR FUTURE.
Good Luck!!

World of Arianny Celeste
Many might say that this is really the motivation and are one of them. I think the two share some common characteristics. I think our mind is inspired by the desire to implement the project, namely to learn to play an instrument, learn a foreign language, learn to do, learning to paint, learn to drive, etc., before we are motivated to learn things that have been inspired to perform. Without the inspiration or the desire to do anything about those things, our motivation to die.

Arianny Celeste With Motivation
The title, motivation versus inspiration, “draws our attention to a difference between them, although many people use them interchangeably. Its use as a synonym, its intrinsic meaning is lost and gives the listener a vague idea of what is said. When people are relaxed with his tongue, these errors occur over time and the direction will change and confusion of the original definition.

Personal Development Coach For A Well-Balanced Life

Most individuals participate in life coaching programs for one main reason, to have a well-balanced life. These individuals seek to follow their aspirations as well as find quality time to spend with their families and loved ones. A personal development coach helps them examine the quality of their lives at present, then ask them to determine their goals, and eventually motivate them to take action to the fulfillment of these goals.
But in what way can a personal development coach able to do these things? Is their knowledge sufficient enough to help other people in improving their lives? A personal development coach may be best described as an epitome of a good leader. This is proven by how a personal development coach decides on who and what he/she wants his/her life to be. So what does it take to be an effective leader or a personal development coach?
A Vision
To be able to have a philosophy or vision is part of being a personal development coach. The beliefs and principles of a personal development coach will serve as a guide to achieve a good result. Thus, a personal development coach must have the capability to clearly express his vision as well as influence others to be adhere to his vision.
An Inspiration To Others
A good personal development coach can be effective if he knows how to mold other people to be achievers. A personal development coach may not be the most skillful leader but he has this ability to help people reach for their aspirations to the best of their abilities. Good leaders and coaches are not self-absorbed. People need one another so as to be the best they can be.
Appreciative of Others
You can be a personal development coach if you have the skill to make people have confidence and faith in themselves. The experiences you share to them can help them develop and improve. A personal development coach, like any other leaders, can win people over and influence them to be better.
A Doer
If you are a personal development coach or a leader, there is no room for complacency. A personal development coach motivates people to take action rather than wait for something to happen. However, when a personal development coach needs to wait in order to achieve a much better result, that’s the only time he will do so.
Confident
Confidence results in trust. People can only trust a personal development coach when he has confidence in himself. He knows that he is valuable to others. His beliefs and principles guide his actions, thus, making him aware of the effect of his decisions to the transformation of his life. A personal development coach has to believe in other people as well. He should be a guide to them, not a dictator. He is their mentor. Showing his faith in them will make them trust themselves, too.
Check out the people around you. Are you able to find individuals with these traits? Do they inspire you to be one of them?

What are People Skills and Why are They Important in Life & Business?

People skills are simply how you communicate with people, whether they be friends, family, work colleagues, clients etc. Before we move on to explaining the different areas of people skills, let us remind you of one point: they are vital for long-term success and happiness in both personal, career and business life. It is usually those people who have excellent communication skills who have more fulfilling relationships and rise to the top of their chosen fields.
For many people, communication is a “natural” process which shouldn’t be difficult. However, the truth is that we unconsciously model our communicating style on different people as we grow up, and unless those people were excellent communicators, we can usually improve on our communicating behaviour. Communication can easily lead to misunderstanding. Two people can go away from a conversation with different ideas about what was said (or meant) or people can get into conflict without realising how it happened.
So what are the different aspects of dealing with people?
Firstly, there is a big difference between simply talking and communicating. Often, those who talk just want to download their thoughts or feelings with little regard as to whether they are being understood. We probably all know those people who ‘talk at us’ and don’t seem to listen to what we have to say. How does that make you feel around that person? Probably not very good and perhaps a little frustrated right? Good communicators take responsibility to understand others and to be understood themselves.
That brings us onto our next area – appropriateness of communication. They way you communicate with a child, we be different to the way you speak with a partner and the way you communicate with a friend will be different to the way you speak with a manager. This really comes down to being aware of the situation and the context of your exchange with the person. Good communicators are very aware of the situation and modify their behaviour and communication style accordingly.
Next area is the use of words. Words can conjure up different images and can mean different things to different people. For example, the word ‘sales’ can mean pushy and aggressive selling tactics to one person. To another person it might simply mean purchasing something which they need or want. To yet another person it might mean products and/or services at special discounts. Having a good vocabulary is one thing, but using the right words in the right situations with people is another. Talking slang to your mates down the pub is OK, but talking like that to a potential business client isn’t.
Next area of communication is body language. There is far more to communication than simply the words we use. According to Allan Pease in his book ‘Questions Are The Answers’ the impact your message has on listeners is as follows:
Words: 7 – 10% of total impact
Vocal: 20 – 30% of total impact
Body language: 60 – 80% of total impact
This may or may not surprise you, but most communication is body language. The way someone moves, sits, gestures, the movement of their facial features. And whether you’re aware of it or not, you are constantly picking up these unconscious signals and giving out unconscious signals every time you communicate with someone. Tell someone you think they’re great through gritted teeth and you will know the power of body language!
Next important people skill is questioning and listening. How on earth can you understand where someone is coming from and where they want to go (metaphorically as well as literally) unless you ask them good questions and carefully listen to what they tell you – both verbally and non-verbally? Asking good questions is usually as simple as caring enough about what the other person wants. Good listening is down to concentrating on what the other person is really saying, rather than what you want or thinking of what you want to say next. Good questioning and listening skills will do more than almost anything else to getting people to like being around you and if it’s in a business context, to do business with you.
The next area of people skills is assertiveness or, the right use of assertiveness. We probably all know those people who are ‘really nice’ but they tend to try and please everybody and struggle saying “no” perhaps for fear of letting people down – constantly needing other people’s approval. These people often complain of being ‘walked over’ or taken advantage of by others. While being concerned for and wanting to help others is a positive quality, being assertive is also important. It’s being assertive but not aggressive or rude that is the skill.
The final people skill we shall look at is giving and receiving criticism or praise. The vast majority of people will work hard to avoid criticism and sometimes harder to receive praise. This is the pain and pleasure principle – people like to the seek pleasure of praise and endeavour to avoid the pain of criticism, especially if the praise or criticism is in front of peers. It’s often those teams or organisations who use praise and criticism skillfully (or fear of) that get the most out of their people. According to Dale Carnegie in his book ‘Hoe To Win Friends & Influence People’ the things people want the most include:
1. Health and the preservation of life
2. Food.
3. Sleep
4. Money and the things money will buy
5. Life in the hereafter
6. Sexual gratification
7. The well being of offspring
8. A feeling of importance
Almost all these wants are usually gratified – all except one. The longing that is almost as deep and imperious as the need for food or sleep. Psychologist Sigmund Freud called it ‘the desire to be great’. Philosopher and psychologist John Dewey called it ‘the desire to be important’. If you can make people feel special, great or important you will have them on your side for a long time. Most great works of literature, science or art have sprung from the desire to be great.
People skills are so important that we would say you will not achieve success or fulfilment in personal or business life without a good measure of them. It’s starts with awareness and then a conscious effort to develop your skills. I hope this article has give you some useful ideas on how to go about improving your communication and people skills.
