What is the Right Age to Enter Assisted Living
Assisted living centres are not just places for old people to be left and kept till it is time for them to go. Instead, most assisted living centres nowadays offer all forms of activities which stimulate them and keep them active. Additionally, they would also offer the services of third party medical assistants who can help those who have health problems. Counsellors, chiropractors, physicians – all these are just part of the intricate network that make up assisted living facilities.
Basically, there is never the right or wrong age to enter into an assisted living centre. As such, banish all thoughts of nursing homes for the very old and hospices for the terminally ill because these places normally cater to only one sector of people. However, assisted living centres are a far more sophisticated place. They not only assist those who are unable to take care of themselves properly but aid those who might be younger but have chronic diseases which render themselves helpless without assistance from other people.
When it comes to assisted living centres, age really does not matter. It is a place for like minded people to gather, live together and go through another phase in their life. If you are working full time and unable to care for your aged parent, assisted living might be a good alternative. Even if your parent is only in his 50s but has a chronic disease and needs frequent medical attention, being in an assisted living facility will help him greatly.
Do not be overly concerned in terms of the minimum or maximum age to enter assisted living. What you should start researching on is the type of assisted living that you want to send someone to. There are many different branches and types that you should consider. It would also be a very good idea to look at the present inhabitants in the assisted living centre that you want to send your parent to. It would be best if you could find one which is the most suitable for him. After all, you know him best. As such, you would be the best person to make such a decision for him.
